Corona Cycle 2020: I Bought A Peloton
When life gives you lemons, you make lemonade... or something to that effect. When the world shuts the gym down, you gotta get creative.
When I heard NY mayor Bill DeBlasio might make NYC "shelter in place", I'm not going to lie, I panicked.
Now, the truth of the matter is, Peloton's are really expensive, and I don't really have room in my one-bedroom apartment for a full-time piece of cardio equipment. The price tag on one is like $2500, which I don't exactly have lying around.
So what did I do as a workaround? I decided to take advantage of Peloton's 30-day customer satisfaction guarantee and test it out and in terms of paying upfront, it turns out "Affirm", the new fancy way to finance everything on the internet, would loan me the $2500 and let me pay them $70/month at a 0% interest rate.
So now we're in business.
What happens after the 30 days? Well after De Blasio freaked everyone the fuck out, Cuomo stepped in cool and calm as a cucumber and reassured us New Yorkers that we won't be imprisoned due to COVID-19. So in theory, I could just ride my real bicycle (already paid for) outside or go for a run around the city.
But I thought to myself... maybe this presents a way to finally know which indoor exercise bike reigns supreme?
Now the plan is to try the following bikes for 30 days, return and review (one at a time).
1. Try Peloton
2. Try SoulCycle bike
3. Try the Keiser M3
4. Try The Echelon Ex5s
5. Try the Nordictrack commercial bike
Yes, if you're wondering… this is me imagining a doomsday scenario that lasts well into the summer. Crazy? Maybe not.
